These days it's difficult to find computer systems, monitors or cases without some form of default/built-in speakers. But these PC Speakers are commonly basic or cheap in nature. These conventional speakers used to give output at 5.1, 6.1, and 7.1 surround setups but with the advancement in technology more innovative PC Speakers with a range of 2.0 (stereo) or 2.1 (stereo with subwoofer) models are flooding the market. A computer speaker initiates waveforms with the aid of Programmable Interval Timer. The aim of PC/computer speakers is to give uniqueness and create impressions of polyphonic music or sound effects into computer games or to any multimedia output.

It is not out of place to mention here that the first IBM PC model 5150 employed a standard 2.25 inch magnetic driven speaker which worked as just a tone generator. The main purpose of generating or creating this sound was to serve as a feedback in case of hardware failure. There are many embellishments of computers available which let you enjoy and enhance the multimedia content of your PC speakers. They came in a wide range of designs and quality. Some more advanced (modern) PC Speakers provide state of the art features like bass and treble control and subwoofers which somewhat enhance the output, if you have a big budget you can even get speaker with built in control systems. Imagine that a computer speaker for computers with its own built-in computer? In laptops the default speakers come bundled with a basic integrated speaker, which unfortunately produce substandard sound. In this situation some audio software can augment the output of these speakers. Currently PC speakers are also powered by USB ports.

Many programs in a PC like ScreamTracker, Impulse Tracker, Module Player 1989 including device drivers for Linux and Microsoft Windows, have the capability to play pulse-code modulation (PCM) sound with the help of speakers. Several PC games like Pinball, Space Hulk etc., are the proof with the help of computer speakers they were able to produced superb music from computer speakers.

In some computers, Computer Speakers [] are affixed directly to the computer's motherboard, in others the speakers are attached to a lead. Some of the common features of PC/computer speakers are: Volume control along with bass and treble control, a remote volume control, a led power indicator, A 3.5-mm or 1/8 inch headphone jack.

• Before purchasing make sure how are you going to use the PC/computer speakers for listening to music, viewing online videos, telephony, listening to sound clips or for what other purposes?

• Prepare your budget, if you need superb sound quality from your speakers, the prices of speakers are $100 onwards.

• Compare the various ranges or features of PC/computer speakers. Look out which speaker will be able to serve your purpose.

• Check whether the subwoofers are working fine.

• Carefully read the reviews of customers and ratings of the products that purchased the product earlier.

• Remember if you want to enjoy movies, PC games, multi-media sound enhancements you will have to buy more than a basic computer speaker.
